Toyota Prius C concept

The Prius is growing down as well as up! Toyota has sprung a surprise in Detroit, unveiling an all-new smaller member of the Prius family called the Prius C concept.

Designed at Toyota's European design studios, ED2 located in Sophia Antipolis, South-East of France, the C will be the most affordable and also the most efficient member of the Prius family when it reaches production - thanks largely to its low weight.

With the launch in 2009 of the current third-generation Prius, the Hybrid Camry earlier this year and the larger Prius V 'people mover' today, the Prius C gives Toyota an almost full range of options for buyers looking to go green.

Essentially a restyled version of the Toyota FT-CH concept, the Prius C Concept is described as an "eco-sensitive, high-mileage, fun-to-drive Prius."
According to Toyota, the C Concept – for ‘city’-centric hybrid vehicle – is designed for “compact shoppers… interested in a smaller hybrid at an entry price point and with superior fuel economy
A production version of the Prius C Concept will become the fourth member of the Prius family in the US when it enters the market in the first half of 2012 – following the standard Prius hatch, the Prius Plug-In Hybrid and the Toyota Prius V people mover.
The Prius C Concept is an evolution of the Toyota FT-CH concept unveiled at Detroit exactly one year ago.
