Honda Use Li-ion Battery for Civic Hybrid
Honda finally expose battery Lithium-ion (Li-ion) used in the Honda Civic hybrid which was recently launched in the United States earlier this month. According technon.nikkeibp.com, this new battery size or volume is lighter than the Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) used in previous Civic hybrid cars.
The full, 20 percent lighter (22 kg) and 36 percent smaller (16 liter). Specifications were directly announced by Tomohiko Kawanabe, president of Honda R & D Co. Ltd., in EVTeC11, electric car technology academic conference organized by The Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan (JSAE) on 17 to 19 May in Yokohama, Japan.
Li-ion battery cells used are made by Blue Energy Co. Ltd., Honda's joint venture with GS Yuasa Corp.. With each cell voltage 3.6 volts, current capacity of 4.7 Ah, and weighs 28 grams.
With 40 cells used in hybrid cars, the total power capacity reached 676.8 Wh, 144 V voltage, and energy density 60 Wh / kg
