Ford intends to build an electric vehicles (EV) with Chinese partners
China is also a world leader when it comes to pursuing sustainable technologies. Ford sees that, and has announced its intention to build an EV with its Chinese partner, Changan Auto.
Ford currently owns just a small slice of the Chinese auto market, which is currently the largest automotive market in the world, outpacing even U.S. sales. Yet there are generous incentives for plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles in China right now, and the market seems ripe to tap.
Ford will pursue the production and sale of hybrid and electric cars in China, as the company builds more factories and expands its reach in the growing market. According to The Detroit News, Ford CEO Alan Mulally made the announcement during a television interview in China.
The company reportedly expects the Chinese auto market to grow by about five percent this year.
Ford might also consider launching its luxury brand, Lincoln, in China, as J.D. Power analyses reportedly show that China’s demand for luxury cars will jump 35 percent this year.
Ford could be about to follow the lead of General Motors by building electric vehicles in China. Ford already has advance plans to produce electric and hybrid versions of certain models such as the Ford Focus, but these will predominantly be for the US and European markets.
