2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid Priced From $25.995
The announcement caused uproar in the small world of the automotive press, the United States: Ford certifies that its C-Max Hybrid will be cheaper and more economical than the Prius v, MPV variant of the famous Toyota.
Toyota aims to provide a complete range of hybrid models, starting with a twin engine variant of its gasoline-electric city car Yaris, presented last March at the Geneva Motor Show. Families, they will find their luggage to accommodate variation in the "v" of the Prius, announced 50% more habitable and more flexible than the popular 5-door.
It is therefore understandable that Toyota has high hopes in the Prius v, halfway between wagon and minivan Verso compact type. Disadvantage of the formula, mass and rate of increase in aerodynamic drag, which combine to increase by as much fuel. Toyota announces an average of 5.9 l/100 km, depending on the U.S. cycle, against 4.7 l/100 km for the Prius "classic", under the same conditions.
In selecting from the base of its European compact minivan C-Max, Ford left with the same type of disability: higher and heavier than a sedan Focus C-Max drags a higher value of master- couple such a drag. However, and in anticipation of combat commercial promises, the American manufacturer has ventured to announce that its C-Max Hybrid would be both more sober and cheaper than its Japanese rival. Even the famous label that is faith EPA has not been delivered...
"The C-MAX Hybrid will offer a lower average consumption, a more generous power, technology and scalability higher than the Prius v," said Ken Czubay, vice president in charge of marketing, sales and services at Ford USA. "The owners of C-MAX Hybrid as pay less to buy and the pump."
Ford announces a price duty of $ 25,995 or $ 500 less than the Toyota Prius v deemed less well equipped with various gadgets, and with a trunk a little less wide. The problem is that so far we do not know the official values of appetite through the Ford C-Max Hybrid...
Technically, the Ford C-Max Hybrid - which, remember, will not be marketed in Europe - uses a 4-cylinder gasoline engine 2.0 Atkinson cycle mated to a CVT and an electric motor powered by a lithium ion (188 horses in total, according to latest estimates). For its part, the Toyota Prius v contains all of the Prius already known. This produces the 4-cylinder 1.8 to Atkinson cycle associated with an electric motor via a planetary gear transmission. The set is rated at 136 hp. Moreover, the Prius v will behave like a standard Prius, the four modes (Normal, Eco, Power and EV) will be participating.
