Porsche Panamera S Hybrid next year?
German luxury automaker Porsche is planning to unveil the plug-in version of the Panamera S Hybrid next year. Porsche said the plug-in Panamera is equipped with a mains charger and the small nickel-metal hydride battery is replaced by a bigger lithium-ion unit.
It will join the range – including the Panamera, Panamera S, Turbo, Turbo S, GTS, Diesel, and Panamera S Hybrid – in mid 2013. The plug-in features bigger lithium-ion supplying the electric motor located between the supercharged V6 petrol engine and the eight-speed transmission. The electric motor can propel the Panamera S Hybrid all by itself or can support the internal combustion engine.
We’ve suspected for a while now that Porsche had PHEV ambition, because it can not corner the market on a pure hybrid tech. Motor Trend reports the Panamera S Plug-in Hybrid will have a larger lithium-ion with an electric range on the European drive cycle of 30 km, or 19 miles.
