Toyota iQ electric prototype
Toyota iQ all-electric prototype will make its European debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The EV prototype is currently being tested on European roads, with a potential market launch through a leasing programme in 2012. According to Toyota, the battery pack doesn't reduce the regular iQ's load area or passenger space.
Looking further ahead, Toyota is working on a new generation of batteries which the firm claims “bring big advances in performance that will be needed for electric cars to succeed in the mass market”. Toyota is also pressing on with its fuel cell hybrid technology, and is on track to introduce a saloon fuel cell hybrid vehicle in around 2015 in Europe, Japan and North America.
